We made one head count during this Kids' Fishing Day and totaled up with 87 kids and parent/ grandparents. We did catch some smiles!!!

Blue Mountain Flycasters and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) again co-sponsor a Kids' Fishing Day in June. This was a KID's fishing outing, not a fly fishing outing.

We asked that adults not try to fish-out this pond until the kids have a chance to catch or hook into some nice big trout. Mom and Dad, please stand back and watch or help the kids have their fun. This event was open to the public, with special emphasizes on youth fishing, ages 5 - 15 with their parents/ guardians.

Fishing supplies were provided by ODFW according to need. We asked that if a child had their own, or a family fishing rod-reel that could be used, they bring it with them.

This year's event will be held on Saturday June 28, 2008 at the Umatilla National Forest pond on USFS Road 5412.

In 2007 we set up to begin this fishing event at 11 a.m. -some got started earlier. A lunch of hot dog/ chips and cold beverages from 1:00-3:00 p.m. was served to all by Blue Mountain Flycasters. We had a good feed. Thank you Gary, Kathy, Steve, Joy and the rest of the mess tent crew.

Blue Mountain Flycasters helped each kid with the cleaning and icing of their catch. This year we had kid's bringing some nice 12"-14" rainbows trout to our cleaning/ icing station. Thanks Bob and the other Bob for your help at this job station.

Our goal at this Kids Fishing Day was to help children learn to fish, handle fish, clean fish and properly prepare fish for the trip back to camp or home for a fresh caught trout meal. We suspect there was also some just for fun long-line catch & release techniques used during the day. Our intentions were to have a fun fishing day in accomplishing these goals.

This year there was a good day had by all.
